This 4th of July, Tell Congress to Uphold American Values

tellcongress2af243July 4th is a day that we should celebrate our values, freedoms and constitutional rights. These fundamental rights are under attack in the immigration reform debate.

The U.S. House of Representatives is taking up immigration legislation this month. Now is the time to make our voices heard. We must not let the House further strip these rights from border communities, immigrant workers, and families torn apart by the courts. There is still a long way to go before a truly accountable, moral, and balanced immigration overhaul becomes law.

Right now:

  • Border communities are subjected to searches without warrants, unprecedented racial profiling, and excessive punitive measures each year.
  • Millions of immigrants are vulnerable to abuse because employers can threaten them with retaliatory firing and deportation for speaking up.
  • Immigrants can be indefinitely detained, have no guarantee to legal counsel, and can be deported without a judge weighing all of the facts of their cases.
