Ad-Hoc Congressional Hearing on Arizona SB1070 to Expose the Lawʼs
Devastating Impact on Women and Children
Washington DC – A delegation of women and children who are directly affected by Arizonaʼs new anti-immigrant law will testify in Washington Thursday at an adhoc Congressional hearing co-sponsored by Representatives Jan Schakowsky, Raul Grijalva, Gwendolyn Moore and Shelia Jackson-Lee. Delegates will share their personal stories and describe in horrific detail the dire human consequences of Arizonaʼs failed immigration policies and enforcement practices.
The hearing came about after a group of women leaders from the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, the National Domestic Worker Alliance, AFL-CIO, Family Values at Work Consortium, Jobs with Justice, and various other organizations from across the country went to Arizona on Motherʼs Day weekend to document the stories of women and children following the passage of SB1070. The testimony they heard there convinced them that SB1070 has created an environment in which the human rights of women and children are under attack, and they have called on President Obama to end immigration enforcement programs that are complicit in such human rights abuses.
