2/17 in Newark, NJ: Rally & Walk in Opposition to New Detention Centers

February 3, 2011

via Alix Nguefack & Chia-Chia Wang of American Friends Service Committee in Newark, NJ:

As you may know, we are taking some major actions to oppose the new detention center in Newark and any others around the country. On Feb. 16th we will call in our members of Congress to express our concerns about negative impacts of immigration detention and deportation. Call info will be coming soon.

On Thursday February 17, 2011, we will gather in front of ICE office in Newark, hold a rally and walk to Essex County Correctional Facility where 2,700 immigrant detainees may be housed later this year.

Please help spread the word, post on your Facebook profile, websites, or outreach via phone calls. Let us know how many people you can bring and whether you plan to join the walk. It’s about 3.5 miles walk and we should have police escort.

We rally and we walk to

  • Say NO to the new 2,700-bed detention facility in Essex County and everywhere else!
  • No Secure Communities or other similar immigration and police collaborations!
