Audio via @APFRadio: ICE Mandates Mass Deportation Program
via Asia Pacific Forum:
Since last year, Asia Pacific Forum has been following the debate around Secure Communities, a program that requires local police to check the fingerprints of anyone arrested to determine immigration status. Many advocates have called the program a dragnet for mass deportations. Earlier this year Illinois, New York and Massachusetts chose to opt-out of the program, but on Friday Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the program would be mandatory for local jurisdictions, rescinding 39 state agreements stating they were not necessary in the first place. Mizue Aizeki of the Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights and Sarahi Uribe of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network join APF to discuss ICE’s recent actions and what it means for immigrant rights.
